I had a grand mal seizure 8 years ago (around 2 weeks after delivering twin girls). I had my second last week. After a MRI, EEG, Cat Scan, Chest X-Ray and numerous blood tests, I was told that I am a mystery. No sign of epilepsy or any other seizure related condition. What gives? I was told I could go on anti-seizure meds if I would feel better. Is anyone out there in the same situation? Should I go on medicine?
hi floatboard12, I suffered from seizures for 20 yrs and had seizures every month before my brain surgery, but my meds didnt prevent or help my attacks. I tried at least seven different types of AEMs but unfortunately they were unsucessful. seizures can be brough on by different reasons and not everyone suffers from the illness. Different things such as stress, cycle changes, fever, and other circumstances can cause someone to have seizure or two, but they dont ever get them again. This is why I feel you should wait and c if u ever get another one again before u start any meds. your tests thankfuly came back negative, and the neuro didnt c any specific reason for why u should start the meds. It is ultimately up to you, but since your attacks were so far apart and you dont really suffer from epilepsy, starting on these meds can cause u more problems instead of helping u. Give it time, and just stay alert in case u began to have changes in your daily activities, thinking patterns, memory loss, or others. If none of these occur (Im pretty sure they won't) I dont c the need of entering the cycle of AEms. I do wish you the best of luck and talk to your neuro before u make any decisions

Hi,
I had my first grand mal seizure - and hopefully last - close to 6 months ago. Your post was a little scary... I would think after 8 years that I would feel very secure that I wouldn't have another one... so guess that 'theory' is out the window. I, too, went through every test possible, and no reason for me to have the seizure. I haven't driven since the seizure, since our state requires 6 months seizure free. I'm within 2 1/2 weeks of being able to drive again... although I don't know that my husband will feel comfortable with me driving very far out of town - I happened to be 3 hours from home - by myself - when I had the seizure - and on the phone with him. I'm just curious, were you going through any unusual stress recently? I was under a lot of stress when I had mine - both of our children were planning weddings within one month of each other... so I did have a lot on my mind!
