Best advice you can do on your own. Check the government website FDA, pull up the medication section and look at your new med. See if there are any interactions or warnings listed that may apply to your case.
Usually sleeping related meds (well, not anymore as much) were either narcotics or depressants and often could interact with epilepsy meds. We had to watch out for those. One exception was Phenobarbital, old time AED.
If it was your Neuro who issued this new medication and made that statement I'm a little suprised; but not that much. I had similar issues with my repalcement Dr's. It was as if they didn't know my case.
