New here anyone use ACTH or predisone for seizures?

Hi my name is Laura, I am new to this board. I have a 10 yr old daughter that is epileptic. She starting having seizures at 6 mos of age and it has always been believed to be due to a metabolic problem which we are still investigating. She has generalized epilepsy and currently taking 2750 mg per day of Keppra and 1150 mg per day of trileptal. She is having a lot of side effects from the meds and they are still not controlling the seizures despite the large doses. We are scheduled to see an epileptologist next month and I'm hoping this will help. Currently her seizures are being triggered mainly by any physical activity. If she runs during p.e. at school or at recess she gets dizzy then goes into a seizure. Was wondering if anyone has tried and had success with steriods to control seizures? She has been on most of the AED's in the past that she can take, she has a sulfa allergy so cannot take some of them. Would appreciate any suggestions or input.

Laura

Re: New here anyone use ACTH or predisone for seizures?

Thanks so much for your reply. My daughter was diagnosed with Dravet syndrome after 10 years of searching for a diagnosis. Seizures that begin before the age of 1 that are resistant to drugs are part of Dravet syndrome. Since her diagnosis I've joined the IDEA League which has been a great support group for me. You may want to read about Dravet and see what you think.

Laura,
My son took ACTH injections and prednisone for his Infantile Spasms. The ACTH was what helped up get rid of the seizures. He was only five months old at the time (he is 4 now) and we have not been on any medication since. Not sure how it would work with older children.
