Question re: Keppra monotreatment contradicts what I've read about it
I've read in numerous sources that Keppra is used with other AEDs but never as a monotreatment; however, my neuro has me only on Keppra. I take 750 in the am, 1500 in the pm. I have auras occasionally (which is why he bumped my dosage) and sometimes my brain just feels "off". I don't feel remotely as bad as I did on the Topamax, however.
I'm wondering how many others are on Keppra as a monotreatment and if this is more common now. Comments, testimonials appreciated.
Re: Question re: Keppra monotreatment contradicts what I've read about it
Keppra is listed as an add-on, but I have read on here from others that it has been used as monotherapy ON OCCASION. 2x/day is how the printout states it should be administered based on the half-life of 6 hours; guessing the Dr will follow standard pratices.
In general, about the medication, it has little sideFX, the most commonly reported are the uncontrollable emotional outbursts, called by patients as "Kepprage", solomness is another listed side effect, issues with sleep is another one of the top mentioned side effects.
Re: Question re: Keppra monotreatment contradicts what I've read about it
As far as I know the FDA hasn't cleared Keppra for monotherapy, but that is only a matter of time. There are countries where it is cleared for mono therapy, in Holland it cleared last year.
So Keppra has proven itself to be effective on it's own.
In the states and england it is still listed as an add on, but I think that is just because the proces of getting FDA approval is timeconsuming.
