pregnant! - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi, i've just found out that i'm pregnant! ahh exciting but very scary! My husband and i have been trying for about 5 months, we have had chats with our specialist nurse Paula who has been a massive help to put our minds at rest with regards to the risk to our unborn child associated with the meds i am currently taking (lamotragine) but you can't help worrying eh! I'm due to see the doc next thurs and the midwife in dec. I've also been advised by Paula to ask to be referred to a specialist ob consultant. Has anyone else been through this? how did you get on?.

Hey congrats!! what is the other name to this med? my surgeon just told me i could get pregnant if i wanted, and im taking Keppra and trileptal everyday and high doses too. I asked if it could affect the child, but he said it was no problem as long as I began taking Folic Acid at least a month in advance and i didnt have to get off the AEMs.. weird, Im still afraid to take the risk, but he said it wasnt a problem. R u taking folic acid? I guess it depends on the type of med/s cause i know other women that had four childre while on meds too, ask ur neuro and ob, but i dont think it's a problem to ur unborn. hi thanks for replying. the drug is also known as Lamacat. i've been on folic acid for about 4 months now and have been advised to keep taking it. it's very exciting but also quite scarey! if you have been advised that things should be ok i'd go for it! it is all very unnerving but with the help of your consultant and freinds and family you will be ok.

i belong to a support group for women with epilepsy...we have 4 new babies in the group. Three of the babies were born to mothers with epilepsy and the fourth was born to a woman who's husband has epilepsy. All are doing great. I know they also mentioned the folic acid..
