Tegretol and heart palpitations? - Epilepsy Message Board

Hello everyone,
I was recently switched to Tegretol and am still slowly ramping up. On Wednesday I started taking it 3x/day and started getting heart palps. I have high blood pressure that is now controlled but it took a very long time to get here. I used to get a lot of heart palps during this uncontrolled period but I haven't had them in a very very long time. I'm now having them countless times a day - especially after I take the Teg.

Has anyone experienced this on Tegretol? Is this a side effect of the med and should I be worried? Or will my body adjust? I get my blood levels checked next Wed and then see my neuro on the 30th so I didn't want to call and bug him for every little thing unless this was a particular side effect that wasn't normal.

I haven't experienced heart palpitations on Tegretol. But you can probably look up side effects on Google about whether it is listed as a side effect.

This is going WAY back for me... Before I was even on Teg I was diagnosed with a heart murmur. Minor, but it was noted in my charts. I have not had problems with it even when I was brought up to 2200mg/day of TegXR.

Call your doc, just to be sure.

I've taken Tegretol for most of 20+ years....and I've got a condition that causes heart palpatations (PVCs)...I didn't have any increase in them when I had Teg dose changes, but that's just me- and I'm more prone to low blood pressure....

Let your doc know

I have been on tegretol for 26 years now,and have never had
problems with my heart.We are all different,but,I would definitely
mention it to my doctor.Take care.
