neuologist appointment - Epilepsy Message Board

After a few years of having my Internist manage my meds I finally made an app't with a Neurologist. My experience in the past with them has been very negative but I decided to try again. They sent me a new patient packet to fill out with pages of symptoms for me to check. I had to look up about 50 of the words to see what they mean. There is no question asking me why I am seeing the dr & some of my symptoms are not listed. Do you have good communication with your Neuro? Do they really listen to you. Thanks.

I believe I'm generally receiving appropriate care from my neuro. However, despite the fact that much of the treatment of epilepsy appears to be trial and error (ie - figuring out which drug or combinations of drugs will control seizures) very little time has been devoted by my neuro in attempting to determine if there are any environmental factors (diet, life style, etc.) that may have an impact. Of course the more obvious questions like have you suffered a prior head injury have been asked, but that's about it. As my seizures are still not fully under control after 6 months of treatment I'm considering seeing a neuro whose sole practice is devoted to tratment of eplipsey. You may want to consider a similar course of action.

My neurologist is so willing to listen to me. She asks a lot of questions and listens...I don't know how long appointments are scheduled for, but she spends about 45 minutes with me. I have an appointment tomorrow...every 4 to 6 months.

You are so lucky to have a neuro that will listen to you & spend time with you. There is only 2 in my area neither of which is in network with my insurance but I made an app't anyway. The patients of both of these dr's tell me that you go in their office, sit down, they ask you a couple questions, then they show you to the door. One patient told me, "my butt don't hit the chair until they show me to the door". You can see why I'm not looking forward to this but I don't feel like I have a choice. Thanks for replies.

I'm on my second Neuro, and neither of them ever listened to me. I think I'm going to look for another one, or try to find an Epileptologist in my state.
