Question total memory loss

hello
we are hoping you can help.... I have recently started seeing someone who has seizures at night or early hours of the morning. Last week he had an episode (wed night) it took him 2 days to regain all memory at this piont he let me know he had not been taking his medication and had been drinking alot (i have never had anything to do with this before) well on thursday night he had a second seizure this was obviously worse than the first he had alot of memory loss on thursday i took him to the hospital they told me to give him another lot of his now filled script and time will fix the memory. When he woke friday he had complete memory loss and confusion no responsive to most things including his own name. I took him to the hospital again and they did some tests and have said he might get his memory back in 7 to 10 days and that he needs constant supervision and care. Has any one seen or experienced this before and what was the outcome as his family and i are at a loss as to what to expect over the next few weeks.
thanks
dollydidit

Re: total memory loss

I've had eplispy for about five years now. I spent 6 weeks in the hospital after my first episode. I had lost about 10 years of memory when I came to.

There were bits and peices that stayed but I didn't know where I worked, where I was living at the time, and even who I was dating!

These things really never came back to me. Family and friends will tell me things that I had done and I can't believe some of them.

I make sure I take my meds on time and don't drink alchol or caffeene (the neuro said I shouldn't). I still have sez that I will loose memory.

They aren't as bad now as they were. At first after I left the hospital when I would have a sez I may have lost a month of memory. After changing around my meds I was down to a week or so and then down to a few days.

Still my memory is awful. If something that happened a few months ago that someone is talking about I won't remember. If it's longer than that I most surely won't remember.

I don't know if this answers your question or not, but my memory doesn't come back where it sounds as if his might after a few days. With me what's gone is gone.

I'd make sure he takes his meds on time and watch what is going in to his body (if you know what I mean). I don't know how close you are with him, you could give him an ultimatium, it's your new life style or me. Hopefully that would turn him around.

You could go to the dr with him and tell them what has been going on, but it sounds like you have and nothing has helped. Maybe look for a new dr too.

Post Re: total memory loss

ive been living with seizures for at least 25 years now and also had brain surgery. my long term memory was slowly getting worse and when asked which was the cause - the seizures or the meds the only answer i could get was "probably both". i think its hard to tell. anyway sometimes after a seizure i was in a fog for say 24 to 48 hours and then my memory would slowly come back. though over time a lot of details of my past has become almost erased and has at times causes me a lot of bad feelings, i think it really has shown me how temporary life really is. nothing is permanent so to speak....

best wishes,

logger

hi
It has been awhile since I read here and on topic I was shocked when my name and password worked LOL.
Hey I never complain on any forums BUT this time and when I read on other forums I want to SCREAM PLAGERISM no kidding but thank you very much for saving me some work typing lol and wow .
I am 44 and have szs for 14/15 yrs now . I thought for yrs only gmals and they were dismissed because I drank .with 13 yrs sober I have had what I now know as very serious szs . Until this yr. I thought the pitite mal or partial sz were panic attacks and lived with it, and thought the auras that I have never NOT had were flashbacks from drugs or past frequent head injuries etc.
also for yrs I was prescribed dilantin wich I took sort of and if you asked "how are you" FINE was my response and I just ran and ran ran just happy to be alive sober eating sleeping my d.d. remodeling a home gardening woodworking ,working 50 pls hrs just happy.so the szs did not occur to me as being that bad
I now have pitit szs or black outs etc I also have gmals in my sleep where I lose all control and it takes 8 days to function again ????
On topic I have lost what I said was 40Percent but 50 is more like it and it did not come back ever ,last july 4th I had 3 gmals in one day and it took a mo. to even walk from the muscle strain and I now know I was in status epilepticus all day or continuous szs. and should have been kept at the hosp. ????thank you all for your memorys or lack there of .
I also have 24/7 ringing in my ears plus the tinitus from the meds I also can hear about as good as my dog and that is scaring me bad ,I can not work because of the memory prob. and all kinds of ???? noises make me shut down for moments or min. , my balance is also shot to the point where I stare at the ground when I walk or fall down wow rambling sorry .
I have many many triggers also that either were not there or I was not aware of them , lights, flashing lights florescent lights ,noise HEAT ,overworked where if I get tired I have szs period I am now trying to get this all in a portfolio for a doctor. depression is now a huge demon also amazing how the brain works ........Rick.

Re: total memory loss

Wow Wow Wow RICK!!!

You are almost describing my episodes to a T. Please read my thread (What is going to happen to me?) You have problems with your balance? Do you get vertigo when you come off of elevators? I have learned to structure my life around most things that people take for granted and/or don’t think about. I was advised to stay away from elevators/ air planes ECT. My vertigo started after I walked off an airplane and fell in the airport because the ground was moving beneath my feet. I have also limited myself to an hour of TV a day in fear of seizers.

My male neuro threw around ‘Panic attack’ a couple times during out visit but as I had to correct him about a dozen times about Epilepsy facts. Needles to say, I never went back to see him. He’s a neuro and I had to correct him?? Okay…. I know that I’m having Partial seizures. I’m very confident in this diagnosis because there is nothing, nothing else that can describe my episodes. Should I expect grand mals in the future?
