Angry if your neuro dr got mean and nasty with you would you look elsewhere???

hi on friday i was having a seizure and after it was over i called my neiro dr and i was trying to talk to him about my seizures getting worse ,he told me in a nasty kind of way IF YOU CALL ANYMORE i will dismiss you ,no questions ask and then he hung up on me that was the only time i ever called his office i even pleaded with him to take me off the depakote cause for one they make me extremly tired and i been on them since dec im very moody and crabby my moods are bad i cry i just dont like them one bit i do have another neuro appt with another dr because he hurt my feelings really bad plus i was suppose to have a MRI done but he decided to try the medications first which did help for allmost 5 mos but the way he treated me on friday wasnt very professional for a dr to treat his patient ,i have never ever had a dr treat me this way ever.he told me to call 911 i cant keep calling 911 everytime i have a seizure .i liked him at first but now i dont after what he did also i have told him about my horrible headaches and he wont do nothing about them and a neuro should help with headaches too both my sisters went to this same dr for there headaches and he fixed theres ,so he blew it when he got mean to me im not letting anyone and exspecially not a dr treat me with disrespect hes suppose to be helping me not treat me like that.

Re: if your neuro dr got mean and nasty with you would you look elsewhere???

Hi Vickie,
I went through something similar a few years ago. It was only a couple of years after I had started taking meds for my seizures, and I didn't know my neuro wanted to see me every few months. I was young, and didn't have a lot of experience with a chronic condition like this, so I kept having my meds refilled, and it was probably a year since I'd last seen my neuro. the day before I was going on vacation, I called in my prescription, and the pharmacy called me back and said that the doctor wouldn't refill it. So I called my neuro, and he was very snippy to me on the phone and said he wouldn;t permit a refill on my prescripotion because I hadn't had an appointmernt with him in so long. I said I needed them because I was leaving on a trip and couldn't be in to see him immediately, and I was all out. And he basically told me he didn't want to deal with someone who was just going to take meds and never come in for a check-up. He was very mean to me, and I was very upset. I went to the pharmacy, and luckily, they understood that I couldn't be without my seizure meds, and did a refill for me anyway. But I seriously would have been left without my meds for at least a week if the people working at the pharmacy weren't so understanding because he was too angry to say something like, "Okay, I'll okay a refill now, but you have to make an appointment."
As soon as I got back from my trip, I went to see my primary doc, and got a referral to a different neurologist.

so off to the new neuro dr i go on may 12th at 4pm my hubby even likes it better since he wont have to miss work .
thanks so much sentencedoing for responding did your neuro find your seizures on tests or did they go by your symtons ????
cause all my test came back normal but a mental place told me that if i took the depakote for 5 mos and didnt have any seizures its most likely seizures i had a few drs trying to tell me it was severe panic but the mental place said you do not fall down and do what i do with panic plus i been having seizures in my sleep lately too.
thanks vickie

My doctors mostly diagnosed me from my symptoms. My EEG's were abnormal, but I think they were all confused by the fact that my seizures can last up to hours at a time. One of the doctors said maybe it wasn't seizures, but then said they must be since I was responding well to the meds. They're not totally under control yet, though, which is why I'm going to have a VEEG in July.

It is "said" that if you can't be treated with anti-epileptic drugs, then most likely you are having psycho-genic seizures. Supposedly only "True Epileptics" can have their seizures reduced with AEDs.

OK, two years into this and I'm on my fifth medication comboniation. I flat-out asked my doc if he thought they were psychogenic and he said absolutely not...even though my last EEG was norma. My first EEG was not, however plus I had seizures as an infant and took phenobarbatol until I was 2.

I'd say, in your case, that the best thing to do would be to see an Epileptologist at a major Epilepsy Center. You don't deserve the treatment your current Neurologist is providing.
