been suffering for awhile

Can someone please let me know if this at all sounds familiar to them. I am just 50 so I assumed these symptoms were going through menopause but does not fit anyone elses. Also went to therapist thinking anxiety but noone else seems to have anxiety lilke this either. Since I was little I never could be in a car when the light would flicker from trees we were passing. I would just space out. NOw for the last 3 years I have been getting a feeling that is very hard to explain. I could be anyplace out, at home any time of day & I get this weird tight feeling which starts in stomach. Then the heart would start pounding and I just need to sit and stare and although I could talk I do not want to. If I tried to do things when this happens I become very clumsy and drop things, bang into things ect. I feel very fearful when this feeling happens but just want to stare and not talk. It passes in a few minlutes but leaves me feeling very upset because it happens so many times a day and I'm afraid people will feel I am weird or drunk. Is this anxiety or is it at all possible small seizures. Thank you so much for any input.

Re: been suffering for awhile

I'd recommend talking to your doctor, and maybe having an appointment with a neurologist (first appointment, tests, followup). An EEG (strobe test) would be the test that COULD help see if you have a form of epilepsy or not.

Speaking in generalities, it SOUNDS like it could be "photo-sensitive" epilepsy, or where flashing lights (light through leaves) even the screens on windows in some cases can cause the symptoms.

IF this ends up being the verdict, also watch out for Florescent lighting (long tubes especially) due to their "cycle rate", and "tube monitors" (not flat screen) also have a "refresh rate" that bothers some of the photosensitive patients. You should know already if some computer displays/TV's cause symptoms with you.

Hope that little bit helps.

Re: been suffering for awhile

If you ask me, the second set of symptoms sound like panic attacks. But in regards to spacing out when light flickers through leaves, that sounds like photosensitive Epilepsy, as Travis said.
