A question about Magnesium Supplements

For awhile I was taking different kinds of Magnesium supplements. Sometimes Magnesium Oxide tablets and later on Liquid Ion Magnesium. Not to gross anyone out, but one of the side effects of too much Magnesium is it acts like a laxative and gives you "loose stools." Does anyone here know or has anyone here ever asked their Neurologist if having "loose stools" would make your AED's go through your digestive tract faster than if you didn't have "loose stools?" In other words would there be a chance it could reduce the body's ability to absorb the medication and the patient would end up with less medication in their system? Sorry for the TMI

Re: A question about Magnesium Supplements

I asked my Neurologist this exact question. He said that my Keppra and Topamax levels would not be affected but he did say that the Tegretol XR levels could be affected. So I decided to stop taking the Magnesium and go back to taking the Great Earth Vitamins Multi-Mineral supplements which include Magnesium.
