new type of seizure- from Lamictal?

I was wondering if someone could help. I have had Epilepsy w/Grand mals (4 of them) since '07. I have been on Lamictal and seem to be ok. I'll feel aura-ish sometimes (dis-connected, groggy, nervous etc.) But the last week I have been pretty sick fighting bad cold symptoms. I have been taking any cold-dlu-sinus there is (the pseudo which you have to buy at the pharm)
Well I got up to get ready for work at 6, took shower and ironed, the next thing I know, it's 7 ok per the radio, I ran to my husband and said something about not hearing the alarm. He said "well you already took your shower so you must have got up". So I quick got ready and went to work. I do data entry. I didn't feel like I was tired (nodding or anything) but I would all of a sudden realize I was there and for some reason, not be able to type the next couple letters or numbers, they just wouldn't "connect" to me.
I've never had any black out seizures nor do they know if that's what it was since no one really witnessed it. Can anyone help me make heads or tails out of this? It was a really scary feeling not knowing exactly what was going on. Maybe it's the cold meds that are screwing me up somehow.
Claire on another thread had mentioned something about a higher level of Lamictal making her "forget" things a couple minutes. I don't know if it could be that. I know I just don't feel right period from the higher does but not due to seizures, just makes me "slower". Thank you for any info!!

I would think it may have something to do with the cold meds-if I were you I'd not only talk with your DR but your pharmacist-they sometimes know alot more that the Drs do-when it comes to drugs counter-acting with each other.

Re: new type of seizure- from Lamictal?

Hi Kim, I know your looking for help with your weird feelings at work... maybe it is the cold tablets if it started when you first started taking them. I remember when I started taking lamactial the doc told me I was no longer allowed to take cold & flu tablets, but it may be different with you.

Anyways Im wondering if I could ask you something...
I found out I had epilepsy in 2005 after 3 grand mals & I am currently on Lamictal & Tegretol. I feel dis-connected & un real all the time it scares me. Sometimes I feel like Im getting an aura but I dont know if Im just panicing and imagining it. I feel as though Ive changed since I started taking my meds. Do you feel this way all he time? Or has it gone away now?
Thank you for your time,
Lauren

Re: new type of seizure- from Lamictal? ME TOO!!

Hey Lauren - hope this message gets to you, I went to reply, So I'm hoping this will help you.

I copyed your txt, because It's descrbing exactly what I experience/feel and I couldnt have put it better.

I am currently on Lamictal too. I feel dis-connected & un real all the time it scares me. Sometimes I feel like Im getting an aura but I dont know if Im just panicing and imagining it. I feel as though Ive changed since I started taking my Lamictol.

I was on Tegratol, I didn't experience any side Effects but as it wasnt stopping my seizures They switched me 2 Lamictol I am taking 400mg. Since taking Lamictol I get Aura's Where I feel so nervous, sick, I panic sometimes but it goes after a min "I feel like Im getting an aura but I dont know if Im just panicing and imagining it" I feel unreal, Like for a few seconds It's hard to describe, I suppose like 2 seconds of 'Dream Like' state as if I'm Dizzy for a sec and have to bring myself back to reality. I'm soorry if I'm not making any sense, but It's hard to describe. I think it is the Lamictol but I'm not sure.

I hope this helps u.

Re: new type of seizure- from Lamictal? ME TOO!!

Thank you for getting back to me, that is EXACTLY how I feel. Like I just get sucked into my mind for a min and I have to shake myself out and get back to what I was supposed to be doing. I find I zone out easily too when Im having a conversation with someone. Lately Ive been getting really tired and my eyes have been blurry and playing up. Im going back to my doctor soon to find out what the go is because I hate feeling this way, its really controling my life at the moment. Ive been doing alot of research on Australian Epilipsy sites to find out if these side affects are normal... do we have to put up with them the rest of our lives? I've copy and pasted a section on Anxiety because this is one of the big symptons of Epiliepsy..

"Symptoms can include; stomach pains, diarrhoea, dry mouth, rapid heartbeat or palpitations, tightness or pain in chest, shortness of breath, dizziness, frequent urination, difficulty swallowing. Psychological symptoms can include: difficulty in sleeping, irritability, inability to concentrate, fear of madness, feeling unreal and not in control of your actions. "

I dont get all of these but I do get a few of them. It says to see your doctor if these things start to worry you but I hate it when they play with my meds because I feel worse for a while.
Anyway I will post back to you and let you know what the doctor says, maybe you should make an appointment with yours to? Thank you for writing back to me. Its nice to know I'm not alone and I'm not going crazy!
