Lennox-Gastaut syndrome anyone? - Epilepsy Message Board

Hi everyone my little sister has Lennox-Gastaut syndrome and also has mental retardation , its been rough for my whole family and especially for my little sister I’ve read that usually people afflicted with this have behavioral issues so its not unexpected but lately its gotten out of control and I’m really getting worried that my sister is going to hurt herself or someone else and she may end up having to be put into a facility of some sort. To give you an example she’s gone into these rages and attempted to grab a knife and threaten to stab my father I also had to tackle her because she ran outside the house right into the road without looking completely naked. She had to be hospitalized at its worse but then eventually she started getting better with some medication but its starting to happen again slowly but surely and I’m really afraid for her and my family. Has anyone here dealt with a family member with Lennox? I’d like to hear if anyone has had these types of behavioral issues or just to hear how others deal with this. Thanks to anyone who can talk with me.

I have a 12 year old daughter that has Lennox Gastaut and mild retardation. She has started acting out and has a lot of aggressive behavior to. She has done some of the same things described by you to.
She has severe mood swings. You never know what she is going to do from one minute to the next.
I thought was the only one dealing with this type of behavior until I read your post. I thought I would let you know you are not alone.
