Need help with Brother and Seizures - Epilepsy Message Board

My brother started having seizures about a year ago. After the seizures he is not himself. Sometimes he is awake afterward and does not remember the seizure and has a bad headache. Other times he comes out of the seizure and is agressive and thinks we are after him. He has a high sense of fear. This can last for a while.....and seizures several times during these episodes.
He may sit on the couch afterward and just laugh and we can talk to him and he can't comprehend what is going on.

Twice he has ended up in the hospital. Last year he was in icu because they could not get the seizures to stop. He was having up to twenty per day.
Both times as he came back to himself he was put in a neuro ward to be watched.

He has been told he has temporal lobe seizures...it is all scary. He is depressed as he just had another round of the seizures after 5 months without any. His behavior got out of hand and he was put back in the neuro ward and meds changed... he is out and fine for now but they come back eventually

Can anyone relate to this. The episodes where he has the behavior problems are almost like he is insane....

jbabbit, it's difficult for me to relate to the severity of what your brother is going though, but I know what it's like to have epilepsy. Your brother is a good example of why I feel like such a wimp sometimes for having trouble with my relatively mild condition! He, and you, must be very strong.

Beyond the medications, I know surgery is an option for some. You could ask the physicians if this is an option for him.

Though I know it was not always the case in history, luckily, today the medical community is more informed about epilepsy and how it is unrelated to mental problems.
