first time seizure some questions

I had my first seizure ever about a year ago. Ever since I have had a few questions about what I experienced and wondered if anyone has ever had similar experiences. I haven't been diagnosed with anything, everything came back normal but it still left me wondering about the whole experience.

The first thing I remember is, that I noticed the television screen suddenly looked very small to me, the next thing I remember was I was dreaming. It felt like it was a long dream and I can still recall the tell end of it. When I came to I really thought I had been in bed a sleep and was dreaming. I just wondered if anyone else has ever seem to be dreaming during a seizure? I was wide a wake and watching TV prior to the episode. I know that there those who have experienced while sleeping seizures or dreamed of seizures. I was just wondering if anyone has ever gone from being wide awake, to having a seizure and coming out of it and knowing that all the while you, yourself, was just dreaming?

Also, does anyone know what might cause you to come out of the seizure with your whole body tingling? It is that same tingling feeling you get when your hand or foot goes to sleep on you, however it was painful and continued for about another hour. Is that common and what causes that to happen?

Thank you, in advance, for your time and understanding.

Re: first time seizure some questions

While I haven't had the experience of dreaming you mention, I have had voices, images, and a cacophony of sounds engulf me. Isn't it strange to later realize you're only laying there the whole time? It's quite powerful. I've not taken illegal drugs, but it's what I imagine it must be like taking hallucinogenics.

I haven't experienced tingling, either, but since seizures involve the brain almost anything can happen. Did you feel drained - mentally and physically - afterwards?

Mediocrates...Thanks for replying and yes I felt extremely drained. For me it actual took about two hours to come back to reality. It felt like I was drifting between two worlds. Then it took about two days to recover physically. Like you said one of the strangest experiences was, in my mind, the dream went on and for a long time, yet when I came out of the seizure it had only been a few minutes. When I did finally come back too, I remember the sensations of extreme vertigo, the rooms swirled around me for about two hours or so. And I agree with you, when it involves the brain...almost anything can happen.

Re: first time seizure some questions

UAmom, maybe someone who has seizures very similar to yours will see this thread and respond, but the effects of E are very individualized. It's good that you're familiar with this.

You would like Seized by Eve LaPlante. You can find it on her site if you haven't read it or if your local library doesn't have it. Just search on her name and "Seized."

Although I have met one other person with E, reading Seized and finding two major E forums, as well as this one, have led me to feel normal again.

I wish you luck. Please come back here and update us about how you're doing and especially for advice. Also, maybe I will see you on the other two forums. They are more active than this sub-section of Health Boards since they're devoted exclusively to E.

Again, best wishes!
