| sickness bug and epilepsy?
Hello,
I am here to ask some questions regarding epilepsy, but first i will give you our history!
My youngest daughter aged 18 months, got a sickness bug in November, she was sick a few times the first day but generally fine, the next day she was very sleepy, only waking to be sick or drink, at 4pm that day she had her first tonic clonic seizure. We ended up in hospital and she had 14 more tonic clonics during the night, going into status twice. At first the doctors thought it was encephilitis, but in the days that followed she was having absence sezuires and they then changed their mind and thought it could be epilepsy. She has had a CT, MRI,AND EEG's, we were in hospital for 2 weeks, and she was put on sodium valporate.
She has been fine since, apart from a couple of weeks later she got another sickness bug, and twice during vomiting she collapsed like a ragdoll, but only for an instant each time.
This week she has had a upset tummy, and had a day of diorreah( spelling?!)
she became very sleepy and confused, very clingy to me and it has taken quite a few days for the very clingyness to dissapear, i couldnt even get up off the sofa let alone leave the room! She is normally quite independant and happy to go about on her own and paly, but she does have these clingy times which last a week or so.
My questions are , does anyone have a child or with epilepsy that is linked with sickness or dihorreah, as she only shows signs at these times.
Do you think the clingy phases could be when she has had a sezuire and is feeling confused and panicky? as she is only 2 now and has delayed speech she is unable to comminicate with us.
any replies would be most helpful, we see a specialist in May.
thanks
