folic acid & epilepsy meds - Epilepsy Message Board

HI
My son takes vimpat, lamictal & depakote. I would like to give him a multi vitamin with folic acid. I have heard that folic acid can interfere with the medication. Is this correct?

I haven't heard this. I'm currently 25 weeks pregnant and my neuro. has me on a mega dose (5 mg [or 5000 mcg]) daily. I haven't had any bad experiences with it.

I have actually heard the opisite, that folic acid is used up by some anti-seizure medications. I have had very positive results taking folic acid with my medications.
If you are concerned about it check with your pharmacist...

I take all those meds (and a few more) except vamipt and I am on folic acid. I've never had a problem with it.
