It's been a while since my last post so I hope everything has gone well for you and your medication. Hope your little girl is going really well. My daughter had her baby girl on 21/9 and is going great. She had been on 2700 dose of Keppra by the end of the pregnancy and is still on that dose at the moment. Little Georgia is bright eyed and thriving at 10 weeks this week so we all couldn't be happier. Thanks for your advice and support during the year. Cheers, Lesley

Much Congrats to you!!! So exciting to see more women on keppra having babies without fears. My baby girl now almost 6 months is doing so well and so will your pregnancy. Enjoy it because it flies by. Update us when you get bigger any questions we'll be here..

Awww, Congrats Lesley on you beautiful granddaughter . Godbless her Im so glad all went well. How much she weight? was it natural? In regards to the meds she wont wean off any time soon but discuss that with her neuro. I took my baby with me to my appoiment last month and neuro found her to be perfect and healthy. As I mentioned before she's already eatting baby foods Im now down to 2000mg of keppra daily, and doing good and will wean down more in january after my EEG. Well keep me updated on you new bundle of joy.
Hey i was reading your post and i thought i would add 2 it since im also in keppra and have a child. My son is now 4 and he has not had one problem. i have been on this drug for 9 years, and im glad 2 say i have not yet had any big seizures although i have had small ones there no biggie, we planned our son i was put on extra folic acid and my medication reduced, and all was good. i was given extra blood tests and scans which i can say i did not mind as i enjoyed seeing me son regularly. the birth went wonderfully (except the part when i vomited!) but he came into the world a beautiful healthy baby and has grown up 2 be a health wonderful boy. i was one of a hundred women who took part in the clinical trials for keppra and pregnancy so hopefully that will come out soon so women can make a better informed decision without the worry of all the medical jargon you can find on the internet. every pregnancy carries its risks and as you are creating a life there is no harder job in the world i think the fact that you have epilepsy can worry doctors as stress can cause fits but in my opinion the stress of the drug harming my baby was more worrying than anything else. I would recommend to take the doctors advice and enjoy and put ur feet up!!! xxx
Elle, thanks for also sharing, wish you were around 2 years ago when I was planning my pregnancy. I was also on 4mg of folic acid daily a yr prior to getting pregnant. I couldnt find one soul pregnant on this med 2 yrs back, but thats why I also joined the keppra research program and gave them information through out my pregnancy so we could continue helping these women and keep them stress free. Im glad to hear about your son, and do hope my daugther continues to stay healthy and strive. congrats!
I am new to this forum and just read your post. I am 40 years old and have been seizure free since 2004. About 8 months ago, I started having auoras like I was going to have a seizure again. I had an EEG and MRI and the doctor suggested I go back on a low dose of seizure medication. I explained to him that I was trying to conceive. He said Keppra was okay as long as I was taking enough folic acid. Just this past week I had a full blown seizure, petit mal. I have not started taking the medicine because I want to conceive. I have been doing research on Keppra and your post was the first positive I have found. The doctor only wants me to take 500 mg a day right now. Do you know of others who are trying to conceive and have to take Keppra? Should I take the medicine and risk it?
First of Im very sorry to hear you had another spell after soo many years free, must not be easy, but also the fact that your stressing yourself over concieving could be a cause, try to remain calm. Now everyone's reaction to Keppra is different and way before you conceive you should start taking it along with folic acid and prenatals atleast 6 months before conception. See how your body will react to it, you dont wanna experiment with any meds while your already pregnant. As you been seeing on our boards of Keppra there is a woman that had a very bad experience with it, but dont let that scare you, because like I said not all individuals have the same reactions to the same medications, atleast have done well with Keppra and my child has too. She will be 1 year old next week (healthy and breastfeed all yr) and I been seizure free for 5 years and on Keppra. I wanna wish you all the best of luck and make sure you get the green light from your neuro once you are adjusted to such med, and folic acid and prenatal. Any questions write me here. Thanks for responding. I have been taking prenatals for about 5 years now. Been trying to conceive since 2006. We got pregnant in 2010 but I lost the baby. Since then pregnancy is all that is on my mind. The prenatals I am taking only has 1 mg of folic acid. When I went to my neuro about 6 mths ago about the auoras he advised me to get with fertility doctor to up the folic acid. For about 6 mths now I have been taking 5 mg of folic acid a day. Is this enough or do you think I should be taking more? Everyone tells me to let go of conceiving and it will happen. I keep thinking that maybe if I just take the meds and forget about the side effects and coceiving it will happen. I don't know.
First of, Im very sorry for your lost, I know the feeling since I also miscarried june of 2010, I was 6 weeks along. But after I had a normal period I tried again and second one was the one. Miscarriages unfortunally are very common and can happen to anyone. Now in regards to the medications I think you could even be taking less since your Keppra mgs are going to be way lower than mines were. I was on the max of 3000mg/day, 4mg of folic acid and my daily prenatal. This was sufficient to help my pregnancy, so if you want to go to 4 or even 3 a day talk to your neuro and fertelity dr since your keppra is low. Now I also been on your shoes before and I know its not easy to relax, but trust me its goint to benefit you and help you in the long run if you relax and stop thinking about getting pregnant so much. First try and make sure your seizures don't occur again because that is the main concern of the neouro especially when u do get pregnant, focus on getting on the correct amount of keppra first and in the meantime you continue trying without giving any thoughts, one day you'll be amazed that your expecting and you wont be putting your fetus through any stress. Pray, take hot baths and even a trip to get your head out of the conceiving part, let it happen naturaly. My husband and I are planning or second for sometime around Sept, so it can be born next summer, but we'll see how all its coming along by then. For now visit your neuro and fertility spec and discuss these things. Once again Best of luck, and I know soon Ill hear that your expecting.

My baby girl its now 14 months 2 weeks, and I stopped breastfeedign her last week. She's doing well on the whole milk, and began walking a few weeks back. Now Im on 2000mg/day of keppra and expecting my second baby best of luck to all women trying to conceive or are currently expecting, never loose the faith!!

I was taking keppra during my pregnancy and everything went completely fine! My daughter is almost 2 years now and she's completely healthy
I can promise you that keppra is totally fine to take during pregnancies.
I was so scared that something might happen to my daughter during my pregnancy.
I talked to many doctors and they said they didn't quite know, but they were sure it was okay. turns out they were right! good luck!

Thanks for your reply. This was my first pregnancy thread back in 2010. Congrats on your healthy daughter. Mine its almost 2 as well, and my second daughter will be born in 6 weeks. My first girl its totally healthy, and this pregnancy is also going wonderful and baby its also doing swell. I have opened a new thread (part 2) of this one, to help other women planning pregnancies while on keppra and to let them know that as well as you, I have also had healthy babies while on Keppra.
