I had a seizure in the emergency room during a mental health crisis a year ago (they did a head CT scan that was normal although I dont think thats the right test to determine seizure cause, is it?) and this past october I had two episodes that may have been seizures. I saw a neurologist today and she is ordering an EEG and a brain MRI. Is a brain MRI a usual test to determine epilepsy? She did a full neuro exam today and looked in my eyes but didnt indicate she saw anything. What she said was a brain MRI will show any brain cysts which can be a cause of seizures. She told me that since I have had ongoing insomnia since this past June that seizures can be caused by sleep deprivation and if the tests are all ok that she will send me for a hospital sleep study.
I am scared about the brain MRI. I am scared that she is looking for a brain tumor. Wouldnt I have other symptoms if I did have a brain tumor?
Also, has anyone had a brain MRI? I do not know if I will be able to handle it. The dr. prescribed valium for this test.
I was recently in an MRI for almost 2 hours. Best advice: Sit back, (try to) relax, and stay still. I've had so many MRI's, CT's, PET/SPECT's over the years it's common for me.
Nothing to really worry about. They are just checking for structural abnormalities.
I seem to have occasional sleep problems. I had a sleep study done just in case there were other problems(nothing discovered really).
