Seizure meds + kidney/liver function
 
I was told that Keppra/Levetiracetam can potentially affect the liver and kidneys and that you should check them periodically through bloodwork. Do you need to request a script for a special test, or is it listed on a normal blood test?

That might need the CBC panel. My doc would run that 2x/year. Some may only run than test once a year.

So it's just the bun test in a regular cbc that I dont need a script for, right?

There's also the Liver Function Test they did at times when I was on Tegretol.

Best advice is to ask your Doctor. Let them know your concerns. If they dismiss it let them know your desires.

My doc orders a CBC usually every six months as all of the meds. (including 3,000 mgs. of Keppra I gag down daily) can tax the kidneys/liver. Additionally, when I took 'girlie pills' (for endometriosis) my kidneys/liver weren't too happy and my enzymes were elevated. Even taking cold medication or anti-biotics can affect certain tests, so it's important you tell your nurse/doctor everything you're taking each visit!

Yeah it can be quite dangerous in my experience, Doc once tested Tegretol to see how i would react and it inflamed my liver, sense then ive always gotten a Liver Kidney function test.
