stevens johnson syndrome-lamictal

Hi,

i just got out of the hospital a couple days ago for stevens johnson syndrome that was caused by lamictal. i cant really find any information about the recovery from it anywhere because its so rare. all i know from the doctors is that it takes several months to recover from it. does anyone here have any experience with it?

Re: stevens johnson syndrome-lamictal

SJS is a severe allergic reaction caused by some medications. It is imperative to tell all your Doctors about this and to never take Lamictal again. I would also be cautious about any other meds chemically similar or prone to cause SJS. You can get a list of meds known to cause SJS on the internet-just do a google search for "medications associated with SJS". It doesn't mean you would get it necessarily, but if other choices are available, I would opt for them. I would try to avoid any new medications until after the SJS resolves, because your immune system is in high gear now and you don't want to throw something new into the mix that you could react to.
