always feel sick with epstein barr?

why do I always feel sick with epstein barr? My throat hurts, I get stomach aches, headaches, my body hurts, I am exhausted from doing nothing, it feels almost like the flu. Then I feel better for two days and then I am sick all over again. I am getting the impression that my family thinks that I am nuts, but I swear I constantly have bouts of feeling very sick then OK. It is a vicious cycle. Does anyone else feel this way??

Re: always feel sick with epstein barr?

Hi Tuitle,
Just saw your post about Epstein Barr. I was diagnosed in Sep 2008 after months of going to doctors saying I felt like I had the flu and with heart palpitations. They thought it was my thyroid and other things before I was diagnosed.
In answer to your question - yes, I feel like I have the flu most of the time and that is how I try to describe it to friends and family - only way I know how. I don't have any of the other symptoms and used to have muscle burning - but that has gone away. I had a good period (feeling about 75% which felt good to me) - over Christmas for about 5 weeks. Since that it is a day or two, like you said, when I don't feel too bad and then I feel like I have the flu again.
It is more than frustrating. I am not young and I suspect from what I have read that it takes even longer. My doctor said she has no idea how long it will last - the body has to heal itself. I have been researching and they say that diet has a lot to do with it, so I am trying to find out more about that. Hang in there - I know what you are going through. Perhaps others on this board can give us both some tips on how to feel better.
Take care,
Liz

Yes when I developed chronic fatigue syndrome that is exactly how it occured, weeks of being sick, then okay for awhile, then sick again, then okay again, and then one day it became a never ending thing.

EBV remains dormant in your body forever but it will not always be active, likely for the majority of the time, this virus is inactive. It is unlikely the reason behind why you feel sick so often. Just recently I posted how I felt like I had the flu, but w/o cold symptoms. I have CFIDS & Fibromyalgia.

throat pain + stomach aches - do you have any indigestion/heartburn issues, acid can make your throat burn & the doctors may look at it and see nothing wrong, but acid reflux can do that. it also causes stomach pain.

Re: always feel sick with epstein barr?

I also went to my doctors for months complaining of heart palpitations and of feeling really sick, they did bloods tests and found out that i had epstein-barr active in my body at some point, i had the feeling sick constantly for months, i have been ill for about 1 year and 4 months now, at times ive felt like giving up but ive carried on fighting.

At this moment in time i am feeling better, but i have had periods of feeling better and then feeling ill again.

I'm sure it can make you feel sick when it's active, and I am hearing on here, how this can be chronically activated, I really didn't know that. Over 80% of people in the world have EBV though. I doubt that many people also suffer from CFS. Well I guess we all may have various reasons for the fatigue. I would have myself checked for chronic activation if I was you, to see if it may be why you feel bad. With the heart palpitations, in consideration that it's not from anxiety or a medicaiton side effect, have you ever had any testing on your heart?
