Gastro.

I have had a letter fron the gastroenterologist about my bloods he took and it says the EBV IgG was reactive which means evidence of past EBV infection more than 8 weeks ago, and autoantibody screen showed positive nuclear antibody result with homogenous HEp2 pattern.
Anyone know what all this means?

Re: Gastro.

Yes! The EBV just means you had mono in past. 85% of American adults have had this virus, so no worries. However the other test is the ANA test, typically done to rule out lupus. The homogenous pattern is one of the patterns commonly seen. The next step is to get the ANA titer done, which is a ratio showing how positive it is, plus some other antibodies. A rheum referral is in order as well. I would call Dr office today to discuss these results and plan for checking it out further. The lab may be able to run the titer without redrawing blood if they still have your serum. Labs usually discard it on the 7th day after drawing.
