Is jogging good for.....

...toning the legs, hips, and butt? I feel like it's toning EVERYTHING.

Re: Is jogging good for.....

It is a great cardio exercise. It will help strengthen your legs, endurance and wind. As for "toning" the rest of the body....not as much as you think. It does heighten your metabolism for a while but the return to normal is rather quick. If you combine it with a resistance/lifting program/proper diet, you get the benefits of both and your metabolism will stay up longer to burn the fat you want to lose. Also you will build upper body strength as well as lower.

Re: Is jogging good for.....

My body just looks better since i've been jogging more lately, especially my lower body. Is this because the jogging is helping me lose weight, or because it is toning up the muscles in my legs and butt? Or perhaps a little bit of both?

Probably more due to fat loss. Toning (or muscle building) is accomplished with weight training. If you look at runners you will notice very little muscle mass. They are usually thin but lack muscle tone.

My thighs and butt have certainly got a lot more toned since I started jogging. I haven't actually lost much weight (although as I've got much fitter I don't mind that so much now ) but I'm definitely much firmer !
