hello, I have a friend that cycles a lot outdoors. He is an avid, experienced biker, but seems to feel the need to slow down due to shortness of breath and he has the "taste of blood" (but not actual blood) in his mouth at this time. I would like for him to get an asthma test done, and I reccommeded a daily multivitamin, but from your experince, what could be the cause and solution to this? He doesn't really want to see a doctor, but would like to know if there is anything environmental that would cause this as well.
That's really.... odd. I have asthma and have never had an odd or blood taste accompany an attack. Very definitely see a doc. Maybe a respiratory specialist who might be more familiar with the symptoms. Better to know one way or the other than to guess, self-diagnose and be wrong.

Yes,my sister also has ashma,i asked her about ever getting the blood in mouth and she sas never.I really think you should tell me him to goto a docter or ring up a docter and ask,he will most likely advise you too bring him down...so play a hand cuff game and drag his *** down to the docters
i would do it especially for a friend you REALLY need to check out a docter for more/better advise.. hope he is ok Good luck.
Well I don't really relate the two of them together- I honestly think he senses the taste as he is noticing he needs to breath better, therefore concentrating on the physicalness of the breathing, leading him to notice an odd taste. He also doesn't get blood in his mouth- just the taste, which I am assuming is a metallic taste. I would like to know if any kind of supplement can help him- I suggested magnesium or possibly an iron pill. But I have no actual knowledge of this...and he won't see a doctor, yet. He isn't too concerned as it only happens when he is out biking.
I dunno what to say about the metallic taste. Without knowing the cause, any suggestions about what to take would be a complete shot in the dark. For the shortness of breath: it could be the onset of exercise induced asthma. Going to see the do would be the best idea because they can get him an inhaler to use if he starts to feel constricted airways ( don't do cardio without one in arm's reach). He can also get the OTC inhalers at the grocery store, but the meds the doc prescribes are much better - lower effective dosage, better quality.
