Actually, it is better to eat some protein instead within 30 minutes of the workout. This will help rebuild the muscle. Then in an hour, have a small meal with protein with abit of rice as your part of your carbs (be sure to eat some veggies too!)
You need both carbs and protein right after your workout (resistance training). Rice is ok, but a sugary drink would actually be better since it takes no time to digest. In addition to some kind of protein powder, but in lieu of that, any protein will suffice. If you're just doing cardio, eat normally and avoid high GI foods.
