Abs and scar from surgery

I don't know if anyone here has any scars from surgery, but if so I would like to know if it is possible to still build that muscle that has been cut? I had my appendix out when I was 15. I am now 29, my abs have good definition now but above my scar seems to be a bit of fat that I just cannot work off. Luckily my scar is very light and not bad compared to other appendectomys but is it just impossible to build the muscle around a scar such as this? If anyone has any input I would appreciate it...thanks.

Re: Abs and scar from surgery

I had both types of c sections 21 and 18 years ago. Lost 60lbs of bodyfat taking a year's worth of college Women's Strength classes. It can be done and scars do not get in the way. When I started, I knew a PT trainer who had a hysterectomy and she told me the same thing. It takes more effort but you can build muscle. The scar is fiberous tissue holding the cut together. It is not as elastic nor has the "give". Just something to live with.

There were a couple of women who had gastric by pass in one of my classes. The same thing.

So you are in this alone.

Good luck
