Ultra light workouts for recovery

I started reading an article in a mag today during an office visit and it was regarding recovery from weight lifting workouts. One point they made was that doing an ultra light workout during your recovery time is actually helpful. The reasoning behind that is that first you aren't damaging your muscle by doing a very light workout and secondly you are gettnig increased blood flow into the muscles which obviously increases nutrients into the muscles so aids in recovery. Seemed like a reasonable idea to me. I just thought I'd share with the class. Any thoughts on this?

Re: Ultra light workouts for recovery

This is "active recovery". It's a great idea if you have the time to do it. There are a lot of power lifters that do this to speed recovery to muscles and it can help lessen some soreness. Good way to do a cardio session and get recovery benefits if you keep rest between sets to a minimum.
