Sticking to your goal

Gah.

I used to be an excellent runner back in middle school. I'd run 12 laps around a 400 meter track non-stop and come out in the top 5. But high school has taken a toll, I guess. No one wants to play tag and all of those fun games kids used to be play in elementary school. I got a little belly fat, and I got winded whenever I ran. My friend and I decided to join our track team. It was HARD and exhausting at first... running non-stop. We were in the sprinting team. We wanted to be in the hurdling team, but the coach said that frankly, we're not hurdlers. Months went by. We'd go up to the school weight room after practice and lift weights. (only girls there! there were loads of football players though, lifting 'cause football season was over) We got a little lean, and our calf muscles--wow. Lol!

After track season was over, and we went back to our old habits. I felt proud though. Whenever we had to run 800 meters for PE, (a lap) I always beat the guys (well, some) and came in 2nd. The coach was a little surprised (me being a girl), seeing that everyone else was out of shape and slow. When summer approached, I swore that I would keep running and hit the local gym to train off-season. Boy was I wrong. I didn't have much time, and sometimes I didn't feel like going outside. My cousin was staying over from Georgia so we generally either surfed the net or watched TV. We did take long walks around the neighborhood at night, but that was it. A month later, I flew to Georgia to stay over at her house. We didn't do much. I'm still 110 lbs, but I've grown lazy...

That's what happens with procrastination. I can run, but not as well as I used to during track... I'm going to try skateboarding though. (for fun)

So has anyone fallen into this trap? Not sticking to your goal and lazing off?

I think the reason your motivation is lacking is because it is based on external motivation - the pleasure of winning, of being in the top 5, and of suprising others by being better. You need to find some internal motivation, such as enjoying the high from running, or the pleasure of feeling in shape. To stay committed to your goals you need to enjoy what you do.
