ACL injury

Hi. About 7 months ago I partially tore my ACL. The orthopedic surgeon wanted it to heal w/out surgery. My last appt was in May and he said I didn't have to come back and to start getting back to what I was doing. He basically said, either it'll get better or just tear completely and then surgery would be required. The whole 7months I was working out, but I have yet since May to be able to "get back to what I was doing". I need to be able to jump, tumble, sprint, hurdle, etc... Sometimes I don't think doctors understand exactly what I do w/out seeing a video tape! Anyway, if I get on a treadmill and jog at around 5.2/1.5incline, at 5min the pain kicks in . I start to run w/a very slight limp. If I sit for extended periods w/out moving much my knee gets very stiff and other little things with bother it, but not as severly as in the beginnning of course. So...my question is, should I seek a second opinion or should it take this long to heal. It seems as if I'd had surgery it would now be fully stable and ready to go! He didn't even give me a brace to wear...and he was highly recommended. I know it's a slow process, but this seems ridiculous. I'm not so good at being on the sidelines ...especially being motivated so much by the Olympians!
