Flexing (any benefits)

I was told by someone that flexing your biceps (he does it under the shower) is going to help shape them up.

It sounded like one of those random myths to me but does anyone know if it might actually be true?

Re: Flexing (any benefits)

thats one fo the stupidest things I've heard, out of all the myths. First you can't shape a muscle. If you have a weird shape of your bicep then its going to stay that way. You can flex during a workout to pump blood in your muscle.

Re: Flexing (any benefits)

So is there any point in flexing at all?

Re: Flexing (any benefits)

It can help force blood into the muscle - but there really isnt any benefit. More benefit would be squeezing or flexing in the peak contraction of any given movement.

Re: Flexing (any benefits)

Ok, I think it's an isometric exercise, right? I remember reading that they can provide some strengthening but not much nor do they really build up alot of muscle. But isometric seems to be most valuable for people who need rehabilitation because of injury since no requirement of joint mobility to perform them and they can concentrate on the exact muscle that needs rehibilitation.

I guess the benefits would be very minimal if any for everyone else, though.

TV time is when most people also apply all their nutritional expertise and realize there is a vegetable in chips so they must be good for you, right???
