Elliptical vs. Jogging

Why is it that I can go 30-40 minutes on the elliptical with no problems, but I run out of breath in a few minutes when I jog/run?

I use the elliptical due to a problem with my foot (I can't do impact for very long), but I would like to jog occasionally. However, it seems like training on the elliptical doesn't equate to increased endurance for regular jogging.

Does anyone else find this? and what can I do?

Re: Elliptical vs. Jogging

I'm not totally sure but could it be something to do with the impact jolting your body around or your jogging technique/body shape being different to your eliptical technique/body shape?

Re: Elliptical vs. Jogging

Running is a higher rated cardio activity not to mention the impact factor. Running is harder - think its easier to bike some place than it is to run some place.
