Jump rope routine...

I hear that jumping rope is a good workout and that it is very inexpensive. Can someone tell me a good routine for starting out and how to add to that as I progress....

1. Pick up rope 2. Jump over it...
just kidding. Seriously, since it's kind of hard to jump rope for long periods of time (I know Im too big a clutz to go for more than 2 minutes at a shot) just try intervals. Maybe 1 minute jump rope, 1 minute jumping jacks, 1 minute jump rope, 1 minute situps, etc... (or as long as you can and just keep adding to it). There isn't really a "routine" for jumping rope. Just do whatever you can to keep your heart rate up for 20 mnutes or more.

I really enjoy jumping rope, but I am also kind of clutzy. So I pick a number - say 500 - then I aim to do 500 jumps. If I mess up, I don't count that one. It is more about keeping your heart rate up, so as long as you are moving and making an effort to jump it makes it worth it. Good luck!

Hi Amy,

You may want to check out a book by Buddy Lee. He's a world class trainer in jumproping. I believe he addresses the "klutz" situation. Do a search for him on the Net.

I too am very interested in JRing. Gotta wait 'til the weather is a little better though. I started this winter, but we have low cielings at home and I destroyed a light ficture.......then my wife nearly destroyed me. Lol.

I'm looking for a way to mix up my cardio. JRing seems to be a good way to go about it.

Jumping rope is awesome but I can only do it at the park when the weather gets nice. I doesn't exactly work out at my house and there isn't much room at the gym so the park is the only place I can think of.

yeah plenty of room and out in the fresh air. just be sure to get yourself a decent rope so it doesn't wear itself out easily.
