I am going to start running after I weight train. Probablt start out ont he eliptical till I think I can go to treadmill. Anyways, anyone know of any MP3 players that attatch around your arm or something in case I want to take a jog around the block?
Mine is an RCA Lyra. I got it last year and it does have a strap so you can wear it running or while you are working out. It definitely comes in handy while working out. I got it at Best Buy. I'm sure you can find them anywhere now and at different costs. Good luck!
The new iPod Shuffles are slick little things. The size of a pack of gum and can hold a Gig of music. Not too expensive compared to the other solid state models out there too. For the same price, most other flash memory players only hold 256 or 512 megs. I have a Nomad Zen, but it's one of the larger drive ones and I have to actually hold it when I go running.

I have a Shuffle and LOVE it. Before my armband (try ebay, ~$20) got delivered I was just holding it, and you can't even feel it. The battery life is incredible and so is the sound quality.
Invest in better headphones though. I am a fan of buds but usually wear around the ear when working out.
I looked into the shuffle, and it looks good and all. The only problem is that you can't use music match with it, you need itunes. I dont want to do that, but that price is hard to pass up
I was thinking about the iPod Shuffle because I was impressed with the size, price, etc. I'm just wondering if I would be better off spending $100 more and getting a 20gb MP3 player that can store all of my music...
At that point you just need to decide if size is important to you. I don't mind holding or pocketing mine (which is drive based and holds 40G), but I know a lot of people that find that uncomfortable and cumbersome. In general, the smaller the better for the gym. ...and realistically 1 Gig of music will last you quite a while. The only thing I don't like about the Shuffle is that it has no display to show you what track you're on and such, but that's also what keeps it small and cheap.

I already have a large storage mp3 player (Nomad JB3). It's a little to big to use for workout purposes. I also don't like the idea of carrying around a device with a moving-part storage device while running. I work in the computer industry so I've seen enough hard drive failures to make me paranoid. Even my roommate with a 20gb iPod borrows my Shuffle when he runs.
I fit over 6 hours of songs on my 512mb Shuffle, and I'm an audio buff so they are high quality. With iTunes its easy to sync up with a mix of certain songs for running, and have another mix for any other purpose.
Speaking of earphones - does anyone else have this problem? Mine get all sweaty when I exercise and they start to smell really bad. Any suggestions for cleaning them? Or maybe I need a new type. Any kind of headphone particularly good for fitness buffs?
I prefer any type of buds, they will fit nice and snug, block out excess noise, and I imagine they won't get very sweaty on the inside of your ear. On most kinds you can buy replacement caps for cheap if they do get ruined.
Not sure what kind they are now. Have to check when I get home. Just the ones that came with the player (I'm still using a plain old CD walkman - need to upgrade to an MP3 player)
Well after much thought I just bought a Dell Portable 5GB DJ from Ebay for about $160. It's surprisngly pretty small and light so im happy with it since I'll be using it most in the gym and outside running.
