Skadoo101, Swimming is an EXCELLENT workout for your body. It doesn't build big bulky muscle, but lean muscle. I used to swim on a team, and my husband used to swim in college, and there are definitely results to be seen. Most competitive swimmers go to the gym and do weight training to improve their speed and what not, but too much weight will result in slower time. (The same idea with how you don't see the huge muscular guys and girls on tv doing triathalons, and running marathons... It slows you down) If you are wanting to tone up even more while swimming, wear a tighter bathing suit underneath the bathing suit you usually wear, and that will create "drag". (They also have drag suits at athletic suits made specifically for this) There are also weights for your arms and legs that you are able to wear. Swimming is a wonderful total body workout, and is relaxing as well. Good luck... I hope that I answered some of your questions.
