Is it possible to exercise and not lose weight?

I'm wanting to gain weight and muscle so my plan is to start drinking these shakes and still exercise. Will the exercise cancel out my weight gain? I don't just want to gain muscle cause right now I'm thin for my height. (I'm 5 feet 8 and less than 117 now I think). How much should I do cardio and weight lifting so that I don't mess anything up or should I just wait to exercise when I have gained all the weight I want? Later this year I get to go to a nutritionist but not right now. Does anyone have any ideas or things that I should know or try or anything? I appreciate any advice. Thank you.

Well, you have to figure out what your caloric intake level would be to "maintain" your weight, or just survival, and then make sure that you eat enough calories in addition to your normal intake to supplement the exercise you will be doing.
You didn't state your age and if you do, I can check for you, like what your caloric maintenence level would be. It's a good idea to get a heart rate monitor so you could adjust your food intake to match the calories burned.

If you want to gain muscle: do weight training, and make sure you eat enough, especially protein. If you eat enough you will not lose weight but gain weight. If you've always been skinny, and have trouble gaining weight, you will probably have to eat a lot. Don't just eat anything, stick to healthy foods, and enough protein, otherwise you risk gaining fat instead of muscle.
