Since March of last year I have lost about 64 pounds by eating right and exercising. At first I was lifting weights 3 times a week (1 set of 8-12 reps) and doing cardio for 30 minutes 4 days a week at the YMCA.
I have now maintained my loss for several months. I work out once a week, which includes 2 sets of 8-12 reps and 45 minutes of cardio.
My problem is I am getting so bored! I feel like I'm there forever. I am starting to dread going. My question is what else can I do to maintain my muscle tone and cardio? Could I get away with only 1 set and 30 minutes of cardio? I don't want to gain weight again. I am a 30 year old female.
Working out once a week is a bit low if you are concerned about preventing weight gain, I think the recommendation is to do 30 minutes of cardio 4-5 times a week.
In terms of your boredom, what exactly are you doing for aerobic exercise? I find the exercise bike/Elliptical Trainer/Stair Stepper machines are great because they allow me to read while exercising, otherwise I get incredibly bored; I will never understand how people can run on the treadmill for 45 minutes staring at the wall, I would go insane.
I too am getting bored. It's been to hot and muggy to walk outside unless i want to get up at 5am!! I find reading on my treadmill makes me go to slow (can't hold the book or mag still if i go any faster then 3.5) I've got a few vidoes, but they're getting old also. I miss my gym, I live atleat 30 min from any good one, besides the cost of gas truly makes me not want to go!!!! I might try a walk at dusk, hope that doesn't keep me awake all night!! I think that we, as home gym people, should try to buddy up with someone to keep us motivated! Besides it's more fun with a partner!!
You need routine for weight loss and maintance. You did good on the weight sets for three times a weeks. The other days need to be cardio. You can do bike riding, treadmill, arobic exercise, yoga, something in the cardio 5 days a week. It is hard to get into a routine, but once you are there, it is hard to change. You need to work out 5 days a week. Try it again. You will see results as you progress. Good luck and hang in there. Hugs for today.
i have alot of trouble with boredom too. the way i've tried to avoid it is only joining my gym monthly. so for example, i'd pay for the month and work out there, then the next month i'd do my own excercise like running outside and swimming. then the next month i'd take part in excercise classes. i found it quite a good way to mix things up and keep me motivated.
