Exercising everyday? Bad for your muscles?

I work out everyday because I gain weight back VERY QUICKLY.
But I've heard that working out everyday is bad for you because it stresses out your muscles too much?? I'm just wondering if this is true, and if so then what exactly is so bad about it? Would you say your body would be more tense with this kind of lifestyle or more relaxed?

Re: Exercising everyday? Bad for your muscles?

You should not do resistance training every day (weights/machines) because it will cause a condition called Cumulative Microtrauma, which basically means that the tiny tears that occur during weight training never get a chance to heal and the body will become fatigued, immune function will drop, you'll lose muscle, etc. You can generally get away with some type of cardio activity daily, but allowing a total rest day once in a while (weekly, bi-weekly) is still a good idea to allow the body some recovery time. If you gain weight very quickly, changing your diet will do infinitely more good than tons of exercise will. Even small changes can make a big difference.
