My knee is swolen.

I played football(soccer) On tuesday, and since then my right knee didnt feel right, but today which is sunday, its swolen up, and the ligaments on the back are REALLY hurting! What is this? I cant goto the doctors today because its sunday. The ligaments at the back feel like i have pins and needles too.

Please help ASAP, thanks.

Re: My knee is swolen.

behind the knee? Might have damaged a hamstring, tendon or ligament. Keep the leg elevated, ice it for 20 minutes at a time every few hours to keep swelling down and stay off the leg as much as possible. Ibuprofin will also help with pain and swelling. See your doc as soon as you can.

Re: My knee is swolen.

Thanks for the info, I think it could be liquid in the knee? Because its swollen around the knee and soft, i looked on the net and it could be PREPATELLAR BURSITIS. They said to do the same as you said, but its not something serious though, well i hope not, i just need some reasurrance, how long do you reckon until i can play football again?

Re: My knee is swolen.

Thats what the doctor is for. You don't wanna get back to it too soon because aggrivating an injury is just going to take it longer to heal and you really don't want that. If it's not serious, I usually wait until 1 to 2 weeks AFTER it feels better (if I know it's not major damage). I made the mistake of jumping right back into running a day or two after a hamstring injury felt better and it ended up being a 2 month long injury as a result. Just be careful with it and ease back into activity before going back into heavy activity.
