It's best to have at least a small somehting after any strenuous exercise to prevent muscle catabolism. After weights, you need to start muscle repair, but after cardio, it's more important to prevent muscle wasting. You don't need a whole meal or shake necessarily, but something to get some blood sugar going so your body doesnt start eating up muscle tissue.
