Looks like your body wants to hang onto them. I think they are only made up of body fat and diet is the prime culprit here. Lowering your body fat % through cardio and watching your diet is the best hope. I think some of us are destined to always have them - it is only their size that we can control.
I have also heard that exercising the obliques (thus making them bigger) can actually make your love handles stand out more. This has also been said about working the abs, if you have some fat on your stomach, the fat may remain - on top of thicker, stronger muscles - and make your midsection look bigger.
