Does treadmill= bigger butt??

Hey, i read on one of the posts that running on a treadmill increases your hip and butt size or something...is that true. I am really really trying to get a SMALLER butt by running on a treadmill and stuff. Could someone please give me a correct answer...thanks

The incline is what works the glutes (butt). Running/walking on the treadmill with no incline shouldn't increase the size. That will be pretty strictly calorie/fat burning.

I'm glad this was brought up. I have always wondered about the calorie/fat burning of incline versus straight away. Are you saying that you burn more calories/fat straight away as opposed to incline?

Thanks, Lisa

No, but the incline adds extra resistance that can add muscle, specifically to calves and glutes (but not much, honestly). You'd be burning more calories with an incline though, as opposed to the same speed with no incline.

Re: Does treadmill= bigger butt??

I used to run on a treadmill everyday and my butt just got smaller and smaller. Before I knew it, I was fitting into size 29 pants and people at the office were asking where my butt went.

Don't forget to adjust your diet for weight loss too, though.

Also, try a HIIT routine. (High Intensity Interval Training). Run for a minute, and jog for three, run for one, and jog for three. Now, that only if JUST walking isn't a challenge.

Re: Does treadmill= bigger butt??

You have to understand that the people wanting the bigger butt don't have one. They are thin people. The incline is working muscles that will get larger. However, when you're trying to lose weight there's usually a body fat % issue. In that case the cardio benefit of being on the treadmill will make your butt smaller. As well as every other part of your body. I burn more calories walking at 4.5 miles an hour on a full incline than I do running at 6.5-7 miles per hour. Hope this helps!
