I work out with a trainer three days a week. Thank god I leave tues and thurs just to do treadmil, bike and abs because otherwise I'd be a mess. When I'm done with him I'm sore by mid day. Until I worked with him I was never getting sore. Which told me that I wasn't doing something right. Unless you are doing your weights and workouts wrong, meaning injuring yourself, the pain is normal and telling you that you worked a muscle. Your muscles will get stronger and in time will not hurt so much. My advice, hire a trainer for the first few times you hit the wts, just to make sure you are doing them right and will not hurt yourself. Also, the employees at the gym should be showing you how to properly use the equipment, if you ask them.
