Remember that claims made for products sold as nutritional supplements don't have to withstand any sort of careful scrutiny. Basically, you can whip up a concoction in your backyard and sell it as "Mike's mysterious seakelp" and you're in business. Promise your buyers anything you like-that's marketing. (that's what they do)...
What i do believe is that these advertisements address the most important aspect of bodybuilding: the mind. It's like the placebo effect: if you are told a drug DOES something to your body, and you believe it, (even if it's a sugar pill), you are much more likely to actually "see results", despite the non-effectiveness.
I'm no expert, but I've also read that to gain the sort of mass that professional bodybuilders have, it requires elevating testosterone levels to HUNDREDS of times normal levels. Ie, elevating your testosterone a 'bit' won't do much.
My suggestion to you is to go out and read (borrow from the library or whatever) a book on the psychological aspects of bodybuilding (or weightlifting, or whatever)... One book I'm reading now that I really like is "Mind and Muscle" by Blair Whitmarsh. Another I picked up but don't like as much is "Mind Pump" by Mike Kubistant.
