*Running* is a high impact form of cardio. It *can* be hard on joints based on several factors, such as shoes, form, running surface, intensity, predisposition to joint problems etc. But a treadmill is not inherently bad.
As far as it being bad for women?... never heard that. Sounds ludicrous.
