Question New to exercise with a question...

I know it sounds dumb to say I'm new to exercise...as I'm a 31yr old woman...but it is true!

I am 60+ pounds overweight, and have recently decided to do something about it.

I purchase the "Walk Away the Pounds" videos, and did the 1 mile tape yesterday. Today, I walked 1.5 miles with my children, pulling a wagon with a 30 pound toddler in it - up some steep hills.

Here it is, about 5hrs later, and I'm very sore! My legs ache - and even my arms (from pulling the wagon, I'm guessing).

Does this mean it is working?? I'm considering walking every day - and doing the videos in doors in inclement weather.

Just wondering if this (along with diet changes) will help me to begin losing weight? How soon should I notice a change? I'm going from basically doing nothing but minimal housework & computer playing - to this regimine.

Thank you for any info/advice.

Soreness is a sign that the excercise is working. Try to fully recover from soreness before you work out again.

If you want to lose weight, excercising is a good thing, but diet is the key. If you aren't burning more calories than you are consuming you won't lose a pound.

I've been recommending this page to women. It has everything one needs to know about excercise, diet and healthier life style:

Soreness is also a sign you will experience if you never exerted your muscles to the extent at which you did. The more you do it, the less sore you should be.

Kim

Good for you for starting an exercise program.

I agree that you should let your muscles recover before working out again. You may be even sorer (or is it more sore?) tomorrow, but then it should get better. My best advice is to be consistent and you will see results. Good luck.
