Hello, everyone

I have a question that concerns caffeine consumption. I don't drink a lot of caffeine, but when I do, I notice that I become bloated. It almost seems as though my tissues swell up a little (I looky a bit puffy).

Does anyone know what might cause this to happen? Is it a natural effect of caffeine consumption? This never seemed to happen when I was younger (or maybe I wasn't as aware of it??), so perhaps it has to do with age...although I'm only 24 years old

Yes, especially if you are drinking diet soda's! There is alot of sodium in these drinks, which cause bloating. To be honest w/ you, soda isn't worth the trouble. If you drink diet soda's, it's even worse. Take some diet coke, for example to a raw piece of meat and see what happens. This is exactly what happens to your insides!

I don't know about any other caffeinated drinks, but there's only 30mgs of sodium in diet coke, which is only 1% of the RDA. It might depend on what types of caffeinated drinks you have, or maybe what you're eating w/them.

I have been on-again, off-again with soda. I think I might try to really scale back this time. Hopefully, I can wean myself of soda entirely...that would be wonderful.

Coffee is actually a diuretic, but you didn't say how you were ingesting this caffeine (I assume you're not just taking caffeine pills...). As far as I know, there is no sodium at all. If you are feeling bloated, you may be having some sort of allergic reaction. Might wanna see a doc about that, or avoid caffeine.
