Probably just a cramp. It's extremely common to runners. Keep hydrated and make an effort to breathe deeper when running. If you start to cramp up, slow to a walk or light jog and try to stretch a little until it goes away, or run through it. Usually if I keep going, it goes away. As far as I know, it isn't causing any damage.
