About three weeks ago I was at the gym doing heavy seated rows. I felt a slight twinge in my back, over by my shoulder blade. Ever since then, it has gotten progressivley worse. It's to the point now where I can just be sitting down and I get this intense burning sensation in the area. I've tried taking over the counter anti inflammatories to no avail. I'm afraid that I've seriously torn/damaged a muscle/ligament/tendon in my back. The pain is centered right around my right shoulder blade, maybe originating closer to my arm pit. Anyone have any thoughts on what it could be? I have a high pain tolerance and it makes me have to double over when it's starts burning really bad. Thanks.
It's possible you strained a muscle, which is causing other muscles to spasm in sympathy. If it hurts that much, though, it's definitely time to get it checked out. In the meantime, ice or heat, or possibly heat immediately followed by ice, might help with the pain somewhat.
Thanks, Jane! Hopefully it is just a strained muscle, but it must be severly strained if that's what it is. Pain is horrible. It's actually not so much the pain, but the burning is unreal.
