Online calculators or formulas are probably MORE accurate than the one on your treadmill. However, scientists are still trying to figure out the true relationship between food intake, activity and changes in body fat, and we do know that it's more complicated than those calculators can usually account for.
The best way to figure it FOR YOU is trial and error. If you want to lose weight, change your diet and increase activity until you are dropping 1-2 pounds per week. See what works, and continue doing that.
